DigiByte does not work like most cryptocurrencies. Instead of one algorithm, it uses five different mining methods. Only two of them are suitable for ASIC devices: SHA-256 (as in Bitcoin) and Scrypt. The other three are specifically protected from industrial mining.
Features of DigiByte mining
The Scrypt algorithm plays a key role in the DigiByte network — it is one of the five “pillars” of blockchain security. Every 15 seconds, the network creates a new block, and any of the algorithms can find it.
An interesting feature: when a miner on Scrypt finds a block, the difficulty on the other four algorithms temporarily drops. This is the DigiShield system, which prevents one algorithm from dominating the others.

Features:

A block appears on the network every 15 seconds, which is very fast. For comparison, Bitcoin creates a block in 10 minutes, and Litecoin in 2.5 minutes. This speed means that rewards are distributed more often, but competition is also high.
The MultiShield system ensures that no algorithm “runs away” ahead. If the hashrate on Scrypt increases sharply, the difficulty there rises, while on the other algorithms it falls. This results in a natural balance.
The block reward decreases gradually — by 1% each month. These are not as sharp jumps as halving.

Antminer L9 is currently the top model for Scrypt mining. It delivers 16 GH/s and consumes 3360 watts. It appeared relatively recently and is considered the most efficient solution in its class. Antminer L7 remains a popular choice. The hashrate is lower — 9.5 GH/s, but the price is more affordable. Many miners choose it as the best option in terms of price-quality ratio.
Older models such as the L3+ are already obsolete. They can still be found on farms, but beginners should not consider them — they are too energy-intensive and slow.
Is it worth mining DigiByte?
DigiByte is often overshadowed by more famous coins, but it has its advantages. Network fees are negligible — less than a cent per transaction. The community is active, and the project has been developing for over 10 years without an ICO or other frills. The energy efficiency of modern ASICs is impressive. For example, the L9 consumes approximately 210 joules per megahash.
