The developers of Zcash cryptocurrency have issued a press release announcing that they have discovered and eliminated a vulnerability in the network. All errors in the software were found and fixed at the end of 2018. At that time, the project’s software was updated, and the performance of the digital currency platform remained almost unchanged. Zcash has announced that a cryptocurrency vulnerability in the network allowed cybercriminals to counterfeit tokens. There is currently no reason to panic, as the bug has been fixed and the Zcash network is operating as usual. The developers believe that this critical vulnerability has not been exploited by anyone. To detect and exploit it, you need a solid knowledge of the coin’s platform. Even the experienced team of engineers, cryptographers, scientists, and auditors who use the Zcash code to run the platform could not have detected this bug. The press release emphasized: “To exploit the vulnerability, an attacker would have to have information revealed in the transcript of the large MPC protocol, which is available shortly after Zcash’s launch. Zcash has found that there is no indication of the vulnerability being exploited, and we are continuously monitoring the amount of funds in the Sprout fund and have not yet found any evidence of tampering.” The reaction of Twitter users to such a statement by the developers of the digital asset was mixed. For example, Edward Snowden, a security expert, praised them for the successful elimination of the error. However, some social media users doubted that the attackers did not take advantage of this problem. According to skeptics, the security problem on the Zcash platform was not critical and threatened only some users.
