The story of the hacking of a cryptocurrency exchange called Cryptopia is still ongoing. Thus, just 7 days after the start of the liquidation process, more than 30 thousand Ethereum coins that were stolen from this exchange at the beginning of the year were transferred to an unknown person’s wallet. According to the Whale Alert account, which is able to track the largest transfers of digital currencies, the transaction was made on May 20, 2019, at 01:43. At the time of publication, the total amount was 30,790 Ethereum worth $7.74 million. According to the Whale Alert, the transfer shows the address 3fbaa73a433daa0f6c43d1c732c3f97a86f3a427, named “Cryptopia Hack,” but d96ba527be241c2c31fd66cbb0a9430702906a2a is the recipient’s address. Thus, the hashrate for this transfer was 16b674afe80107bc3acfe2ee613c8371e0987a36dc0ae51ad3de57458136441b. On 15.05.19, the Cryptopia exchange made an official appeal to its users asking them not to invest their deposits, as the trading platform, with the help of an organization called Grant Thornton, is starting the liquidation phase. Employees of the accounting firm believe that such a process can take more than one month. The first difficulties with this exchange began in the first month of the year, when Cryptopia suffered 2 attacks at once. During the first hacking attempt, the exchange lost 16 million dollars in Ethereum, and just 2 weeks later, during the second attack, another 180 thousand dollars in ETH. After some time of proceedings, Cryptopia started working again, namely in March 2019. At that time, someone transferred 3fbaa73a433daa0f6c43d1c732c3f97a86f3a427 from aa923cd02364bbb8a4c3d6f894178d2e12231655c to an unknown person’s wallet, totaling 30,789 Ethereum worth $4 million 280 thousand. It is interesting to note that even before this transfer, an outgoing transaction of just one ETH was made to 3fbaa73a433daa0f6c43d1d1c732c3f97a86f3a427.
