Officers of the Cyber Police Department detained a 30-year-old man who was charged with fraud and theft of digital currencies. This information became available on the official website of the department. According to law enforcement agencies, the man was detained on the basis of creating the Stealer virus. He distributed this virus over the network to gain free access to users’ wallets on various cryptocurrency exchanges. The virus penetrated computer equipment by sending spam and by disguising itself on various websites. After gaining access to the victims’ wallets, the fraudster transferred digital currency to his own addresses. At the time of the search, the cyber police seized all the computer equipment and smartphones from the offender. They also found a malicious system code on the hard disk. The officers concluded that the offender had been distributing a special encryption tool called kiaracpirt in early 2017. The virus asked users for a ransom of 0.15 BTC, otherwise all information and data could not be decrypted. A criminal case was initiated under Part 2 of Article 361 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
