The Chinese company Bitmain has announced the launch of sales of a new generation of Asic Antminer S17, which runs on SHA-256, on April 9, 2019. The company’s official website contains information on the technical characteristics and features of the new Asic Antminer S17 and S17 Pro models. A distinctive feature of the Pro version from the regular S17 is that it has three operating modes – Low Power, Normal, and Turbo. The S17 model has only two modes: Low Power, Normal. It is also known that 2 versions for each model are being prepared for sale. Namely, Asic Antminer S17 with 53TH/s and 56 TH/s hashrate will be available to the buyer, and the Pro model will appear in the following modifications: 50 TH/s and 53TH/s. At the same time, their energy efficiency is the same. For normal operation, this indicator is declared by the manufacturer at 42 J/TH for the S17 and 39.5 J/TH for the Pro version. Let’s take a look at the main technical characteristics of Antminer S17 Pro from the high-profile Bitmain company:

  • algorithm – SHA-256;
  • coin – Bitcoin;
  • power – from 1296 to 2790 W;
  • hashrate – 36 TH/s-48 TH/s (Low power), 53 TH/s (Normal), 53 TH/s-62 TH/s (Turbo);
  • energy efficiency – 36 J/TH (Low power), 39.5 J/TH (Normal), 45 J/TH (Turbo);
  • noise level – 82 dB;
  • price – USD;
  • overall dimensions – 298*178*296 mm;
  • product weight – 9.5 kg;
  • release date – April 20-30, 2019.

Such a difference in hashing power in Low power and Turbo operating modes shows a significant spread. This is because the 7nm process is not fully debugged and the ASIC chips are manufactured with a wide range of values. Some simply cannot work in non-standard modes, so Bitmain decided to simply disable them in these modes in the finished device during its testing at the production stage. In addition to the Antminer S17 and S17 Pro versions, the company will also introduce the T17 model, which has lower hashing power and lower power consumption. Currently, the technical specifications for this assic are not listed on the official website, but as you can see in the photo, the power supply of the T17 is likely to be smaller than that of the S17. The price is currently unknown, but the sales are not far off, so expect the actual prices soon.
